Quote of the Day

To me library philosophy versus library reality is
akin to falling in love and finding out that "happily ever after" means
dishes and fights and laundry and snotty noses. Where went love and
honor and poetry?

-Amanda Tomlin, SJSU SLIS student

This whole San Bernadino story is getting way out of hand on our mailing list, BTW.

Tempest in a teapot.

It Only Gets Worse.

Today?

It's notation systems. I am SO embarrassed. For real. Nothing like swearing about a notation system and having someone asking you what's wrong and then you launch into a tirade about how you'll never have to actually CREATE one of these in real life because the standard ones work just fine and then realizing "oh crap. Here I go again."

I might as well buy the Clarks and thick glasses right now. My hair is already going white, so I guess I'm all set.

Oh Yeah...

I?

Am a dork. Plain and simple.

I reached this horrible realization while having a conversation with Morgan today - I was talking about 'information encounters'.

Information encounters? He could care less. And yet, there I was all yapping away about stumbling upon information and blah blah oh yeah information systems could be designed to accomodate that...

Shame. Utter shame.

The 4-inch heels I'm wearing today do not disguise the fact that I am not cool.

Sure, It's a Lame Book...

But probably not ban-worthy.

Here's the story from the Desert Dispatch.

And the original story...

WTF? Where are the parents?

Absent until it's time to complain. Asshats.

It's Been a Hell of a Month

And now? I'm coming up for air.

So I went to the East Coast and the next day Morgan's grandma passed away and he went to P.A. so I didn't see him for over a week and it was terrible because I couldn't go since I had THREE DAMN PAPERS due the end of the next week. Then I had a case study and a major paper and an Information Retrieval project due over the course of the next three.

And today? The case study and major paper are DONE.

Never fear - there are two more papers and two Information Retrieval assignments left for the next month.

I may never take three classes at a time again...I'm not sure if they get in the way of life or if life gets in the way of them, but either way, it's not been a fabulous experience...not that it's bad or anything, just stressful when I think that this time around my degree really is about the REST OF MY CAREER.

And then I decided that I might hate my current job, but no one can understand why.

And I don't know either...all I know is if I could walk out and walk into a library job I wouldn't think twice about doing it.

But I can't.

Quote of the Day

From drew:

"A merkin is a pubic wig, by the way. I would make some joke about it, but maybe there is a reason for a person to have one. I don't want to make a pubically bald person cry for hours because of my laser-guided sarcasm. SENSORS LOCK ON!!! TARGET SIGHTED!!! TARGET HAS PUBIC ALOPECIA."

That made me want to pee.

BOOK GANG!

No Joe Ohio.

So, Lileks reported today that his publisher passed on Joe Ohio.

"Didn't see the point."

*sigh*

And So It Begins...

We all knew it was coming, right?

Do I feel bad for them? A little...losing your home sucks.

But really. Most of those ARMs were too good to be true.
